Through Frost and Flame
The blast of snow obscures his form,
His fingers, cold and blue.
He stops to take a deep, deep breath
And presses on to you
The owl flies by and brush your face
An omen from beyond.
He stands in front of you and says:
“Your time here is now gone.“
The stars above begin to fade,
A shadow grips the night.
He lifts his hand, a ghostly flame,
To steal away your light.
But from your chest, a spark ignites,
A warmth both fierce and true.
It burns the frost, defies the dark—
The fire comes from you.
Refrain:
Through snow and ash, through death’s embrace,
The fight is never done.
For even when the night is long,
Your light will find the sun.

Note: For some reason I was thinking of my sister Kate when I wrote this ballad. Her birthday would have been tomorrow if she had survived. RIP.
