So as a distraction for my health issues, I decided to try a little Nanowrimo adjacent. I play with a writer’s group so we meet an hour 4x a week to write together.
I really thought I’d try a mystery this time. I have written a few Noir short stories, but never a full book. My writing style a few years back was mostly fantasy and werewolves. I kept writing but I went back to poems and lyrics. Oh yeah, and fun with Scribbles.
I did my best work when my volunteer editor, Doris, went over my manuscripts. She was really really good and I miss her still. I lost the taste of writing for awhile when she died— she was getting old and I am so glad I had some of her time. She had been in the publishing business for several years. When she saw my Hilda’s Inn, she loved it so much that she asked if I wouldn’t mind if she sharpened it some.
I can’t give enough gratitude to her for her interest in my work.
This time I’m off on a different adventure. To be fair I need a distraction too. If you can get away from having any surgery on your tongue, JUST SAY NO. It is the most painful, disorienting, and bloody painful thing that I have ever done. This is not an adventure I want to continue.
Here let me do a strip tease.
I’ve been very interested in UFO’s, or as the government likes to change everything, UAPs for years.
I grew up only a few miles away from Skinwalker Ranch from 1960-88 before Bigelow and the current owner. I heard some of the stories from our neighbors, who were members of the Ute Tribe. I also saw some very strange things. Orbs were the least of it.
I have a passion for Noir and the tease.
When I earned my Lit degree I spent an inordinate time on Noir fiction, Shakespeare, and Mythology. I do love the supernatural, suspense, and strangeness in my stories. I also like the ancient stories. In many ways we need to thank the ancients for the residue of stories.
My life hasn’t been all that normal.
Maybe someday if I trust you enough, I might talk about portals, mythological animals, and missing time. I’ve walked through more than one portal and there are times I wonder if I am in the right world. But that might just be an old lady’s fancy. I’ve been to countries with their own mythologies and seen things others haven’t. I attract dogs, cats, and myths.
Knowing these three points about my life, you can safely bet that anything I write will not be what I think I’ll write. Today I thought I was writing in a new genre, mystery, when really I was writing a suspense.
So far the elements are slowly revealing themselves. I wonder how all this mish-mash in my brain can come up with something coherent.
Aliens.
Mind Control.
Humanity.
It could all be summed up with these three important questions: Who am I? What am I? What am I doing here?
Your 3 important questions immediately brought to mind my favorite television series. Babylon 5 asks four questions...
Who are you?
What do you want?
Why are you here?
Where are you going?
Very, very cool!
I hope one day to know you enough that you would trust me with some of your stories. Keep getting well, keep stepping on.
