Normally I put my recipes behind a paywall because eventually I want to turn this into a cookbook. However today I had so many people asking about this particular recipe today that I decided to make it free.
This isn’t the first time that I’ve tried to make a shredded spicy chicken recipe. The last few time I did, the dish was missing an ingredient— cumin.
Here is the recipe:
Shredded Spicy Chicken
Ingredients:
Chicken breast, shredded*
1 T lard or butter
1/2 red onion, diced
1 cup of chicken broth**
1/4 cup of roasted red pepper sauce***
1 T of onion powder
1 T of garlic powder
1/2 tsp of chili powder
1/2 tsp of cumin
1/2 tsp of oregano
1/4 tsp of black pepper
Directions:
Put your diced onion in the pan and fry in butter or lard until the onion is transparent.
Next add your shredded chicken to the pan and let fry for 2-3 minutes. Add your chicken broth and roasted red pepper sauce. Put a cover over the pan and then simmer for about ten minutes.
Add your spices to the mix. I like to let the pan simmer another twenty minutes. If it starts to get dry, add a cup of water to the mix.
*I shred the chicken after making my homemade chicken broth. You can find tutorials on how to shred chicken or pork if you search for it.
**My homemade recipe for chicken broth is on this site. Homemade broth makes the dish more tasty than using the broth from the store.
***This recipe is also on my substack. I use roasted red bell peppers instead of tomato sauce. I think the roasted red pepper sauce adds a richer flavor.
If you have all of the ingredients, this recipe can be made pretty quickly. I’ve found that food tastes better if most of it is homemade.
By the way, you can put this over rice or bread.
Bon Appetit!
