Real Life
I made a Costco run yesterday. I haven't done one of those in a long time. When I go into these warehouses, I try to go on a quieter day. I can barely handle the noise and the people all around me. Even on a Monday, there is a lot of people there. The other thing that is overwhelming is the inventory.
I've been dealing with some food allergies and have been using a lot more olive oil. As you know the prices have gone up considerably since the lockdowns. I've had to use delivery for a lot of things because my immune system is not up to par. It hasn't been up to par for many years so I live in a small bubble and only go out of it for doctors and groceries.
I also noticed that my grocery bills are getting higher with less food. So I braved Costco for some essentials.
It's when I push that cart around with a heavy load that I realize that I am definitely a senior now. I loaded up my goodies into a smaller cart I use to carry out my garbage. Yes, I have a lot of it because of my daily dialysis. If I wasn't careful I could break my cart and my back. I managed to push it to the elevators and then to my apartment.
I should have taken two loads but if I can load it in one cart, why should I do that?
I learned my lesson though. My arms are tired and my back aches today. I had to take a nap to recover the spent energy.
It's amazing to me that I've come to this--
I have been through South Africa, Panama, Japan and Germany. I hiked all over these places and my favorite hikes were to castles. I wandered through some mountains in Japan, looking for snow monkeys.
So here I am-- with my next great adventures-- braving Costco.
