I Ching Reading 8/18/22
from Paul O'Brien's Visionary I Ching
When I do an I Ching reading for myself, I first take three deep breaths to center me. Then I cast the coins six times. I use an app called “Paul O’Brien’s Visionary I Ching” for the ease and convenience, but you can use coins. There are a number of tutorials on how to cast coins.
Today I cast Hexagram 17 Following with changing line 3 and 6. The second hexagram was 13 Fellowship. You can use another translation of the I Ching to get a deeper appreciation for the nuances of this system. I sometimes Wilhelm’s Translation of the I Ching.
Present: 17. Following
Changing Line 3: “As you move through life, opportunities arise to develop associations with powerful, distinguised, honorable people. Associating with them brings good fortune. But each new connetion with someone of valuable influence may require an euqal and opposite diminishing of a relationship with someone of less influence. The strong of heart leave behind what is superficial and accept the challenge of developing better relationships.”
Changing line 6: “It may be time to seek the counsel of someone wiser and more experienced than you are. Be receptive to advice from a person you respect, and make the proper adjustments. You may be joined by a follower who forms a supportive bond with you.”
Future: 13. Fellowship
This particular hexagram is about bonds between a group of people that tie them to a specific goal (I am paraphrasing). The bonds become stronger through compassion and empathy. The communities strength lies in the skills and resources of its members. Tolerance of the differences will strengthen the community.
“With a unified group solidly behind you, even difficult enterprises can be undertaken without great risk.”
Conclusion:
Although this I Ching reading is for a broader audience, I can see how it particularly affects me as I come into a new life. I have many friends around me through online groups and interactions, who have supported me.
Recently I have decided to spread my wings more widely by writing about my experiences from when I was a missionary, when I was in the Navy, and now as I deal with chronic illness. One third of my life has been dealing with the medical establishment. One third of my life has been using perscription drugs that caused serious side effects.
I want to talk about living, health, and the unseen. I want to talk about meditation and how to get the best benefits of using various alternative health methods for better health.
