If you are getting overwhelmed by emails from me this last week, I apologize. I realized that I could put my youtube reading videos on substack. I have wanted to get my work in one place for awhile.
Last year I wanted to read some of the classics because I realized most people don’t read, but they do listen to audio books. I picked Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.
I got halfway through Pride and Prejudice before I completely lost my voice. It took months to get my normal speaking voice back. Even now I get hoarse easily. I’ve decided that I’ll maybe do one chapter of that book a week until I get it finally read.
I did enjoy reading the books. When I was much younger, I used to read while my mother canned or did other stuff around the house. I was a portable audio book in a sense. It made the work go easier.
I think the books I remember most reading was the Mrs. Pollifax series by Dorothy Gilman. It seems that Mrs. Pollifax, senior citizen, was tired of her life and decided to jon the CIA. These spy mystery thrillers were very fun and lighthearted.
I wanted to do read for a wider audience. The problem with reading on these platforms was the copyright issues. I decided that to avoid those problems that I would read public domain works. This is why I have read books that can be found on Project Gutenberg.
If you would like me to read more books and have a classic you like, let me know. I might be able to read it, eventually.
As for Memorial day that we just celebrated. Remember all of those who gave their lives for this country. Keep them in your heart. We carry the dead with us in our memories.
